PC800GLX
Fanless PC card for VME bus
Application area
The PC800GLX is a very efficient x86 based PC operating at 500MHz for the VME bus featuring two Ethernet controllers, a VGA controller, USB, RS232 serial port, PS/2 keyboard and mouse interface.
A Compact Flash is used as hard drive, a second Compact Flash interface is available on the front panel.
Software under MS-DOS, Windows 2000/XP and Linux enables cost effective and universal automation concepts. In particular, this CPU is suited to process visualization - for smaller systems also parallel to the running process. Both of the integrated Ethernet interfaces allow an uncomplicated connection to networks.
Drivers for Windows, Linux and DOS to access the VME-Bus are available.
Setup
The assembly only requires one mounting position (Slot) in the assembly carrier. All connectors for PS/2 keyboard and mouse, VGA, USB, both Ethernet connections and a serial DSUB9-V24 are accessed from the front with standard PC connectors. Keyboard and Mouse are sharing the same PS/2 connector, no adapter is required to connect the keyboard. A second serial connection is mounted on the board. Eight LEDs indicate the status of the PC800GLX; three of these can be controlled by software. In addition there are three user status connectors readable by software. Another connector for hardware reset with a short circuit is also present.
Operating characteristics
The fanless PC800GLX is based on the AMD Geode LX 800 processor running at 500 MHz. It contains 256 MB RAM, with 512 MB as an option. Data is stored on a 1-16 GByte flash disk. A VGA interface is integrated into the assembly with a resolution up to 1920x1440 with 32bit colors. This graphics adapter is driven via the internal fast PCI bus. There is also a serial and a USB port for the connection of all normal peripherals. An external floppy drive or CD-ROM drive can be attached to the USB port. The PC800GLX contains an A32/D32 VME interface with arbiter. The VME interface is fitted with 512 MB dual port RAM. The PC800GLX complies with the VME-Bus specification IEEE 1014-1987 Revision C.1. Standard operating system is MS-DOS Version 6.22. Windows XP or Linux are also possible options.
Operating conditions
The assembly is designed for operating temperatures between 0...55°C with humidity class F. The standards (pr) EN50081-2 (radiation emission), (pr) EN50082-2 (radiation immunity) and IEC 801-2 are met according to the EMC regulations (89/336/EWG).
