SHF Communication

would like to take this opportunity to introduce itself to both new and old customers and partners, as well as giving a brief review of its history.

SHF was founded in 1983 as a manufacturer of TV satellite receivers, 12 GHz down converters and high gain Yagi antennas. With the expansion of the satellite business during the late eighties, SHF entered a neighboring market by developing, producing and distributing ultra wide band amplifiers for the optical communication and instrumentation industry. In October 1999, the SHF limited liability company merged with SHF Communication Technologies AG.

A broad line of small and medium power amplifiers with low to very high gain and state of the art bandwidths has been developed. The associated good input and output return loss and the excellent time domain performance of these amplifiers have established them as a widely accepted standard for high speed measurements. In addition to the RF amplifier line, SHF manufactures ultra wideband microwave components such as bias tees, pickoff tees and delay lines which are used as accessories for the laboratory experiments.

The high speed measurement equipment was introduced in 1996 as an additional product line, making use of the accumulated experience in picosecond time domain techniques. This success led to the marketing of pulse pattern generators for 20 and 40 Gbps as well as optical transmitters for 20 and 40 Gbps and the required error receivers to build up Bit Error Rate Test (BERT) units for data and telecommunication systems. The current generation of BERT systems works broadband up to 56 Gbps and the operating bit rate of optical transmitters has been pushed beyond 100 Gbps.

The SHF workforce presently consists of approximately sixty employees. They are mostly specialists in their specific fields striving hard to satisfy all customer needs. Administration and technical planning is managed by the executive officers Dr. Frank Hieronymi and Dr. Lars Klapproth, supported by a team of management assistants.

To deal with the various customer requests for special purpose amplifiers and measurement equipment and with the aim to get close to the world's two largest markets outside Europe, SHF in 2001 set up two subsidiary corporations in Japan and North America. They ensure that customers receive the best possible support, both in terms of sales and in a fast twenty four hour technical advice.
